I started writing a devotional when I was going through unemployment after university in 2014. It was very challenging for me and I still wrestle with my identity being wrapped up in ‘what I do’ at times. I had only written it for seven days, but thought I would share it here to maybe encourage someone going through a tough time regarding work or lack of it.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Friend, let us start this daily devotion by placing our trust in the Lord at this very difficult time. Trust in the One who knows all the days of your life; He has a plan for you. Let us trust in Him together. He knows the anguish and anxiety that comes from being out of work. The God we see in the Bible has promised to never leave us, nor forsake us. He always fulfils His promises. Thus, we can have confidence that we can trust the Lord in this difficult season of life.
Prayer for today…
Heavenly Father, thank you for the comforting words found in Proverbs 3. I am thankful that you know me and I ask Lord, that you will help me to submit to you daily. Help me to place my trust in you with every decision and uncertainty and to not lean on my very limited understanding. Thank you that you are able to make my paths straight and that I can trust you during this season of unemployment. In Jesus name, Amen.
