New life from death

New life from death (Blog post audio) Hope With Ruth Podcast

The flowerpots from last year that once housed beautiful blooms have now grown weeds. As I was sat one afternoon journalling in the sunshine, I glanced at those dead plants. I remembered earlier that week looking out of the window at the sparrows that would fly down to the pots. They would grab the dead threads between their beaks and fly off with it to make a nest.

What seemed dead to me was providing the opportunity for life for another.

In that moment, I reflected upon how the Lord sees what might seem useless and weak to others, and in His love, He gives life, He makes new, He restores.

We are all like the dead branches, but when we come to Jesus, we are made new. When we abide in Him, we produce good fruit. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. The Lord says that we are worth more than many sparrows, yet He cares for them and not one falls without His knowledge.

Just like I may never see the nest where the sparrow builds, I may not see all the beauty and wonder that God is doing in the messiness of life.

He sees the nest. He sees the sparrow. He sees you. He sees me. What seems lost and beyond use is not in the eyes of God. He works in the lives of the broken, the hurting, the defeated, the weak, the struggling, the humble, the sick… Maybe today, God is breathing new life into your brokenness, and what was dead in our lives will be made into something more glorious than you could have ever imagined.

Friend, will you open up your eyes and heart today and come and rest under the shadow of the wings of the Almighty? He is a refuge and strength in troubling times. Ask Him today to meet with you. May you see the beauty of Jesus who died for you and because He rose from the grave, He defeated death. Now, He gives us new life in Him when we turn to Him. Today, I pray that you will experience newness of life and know the love of Christ for you.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
